Established in 1984, Airwaves specialises in the full and complete service of conception, creation and production of high quality programmes and digital content for Television, Radio and Corporate video productions, Event Radio, Internet radio and other moving image and sound creations.

In the world of broadcast television, there are few companies that can offer Airwaves' breadth of experience. From producing regular water-sport series for ITV and Sky, through to major event coverage such as Formula 1, Horse Trials, Le Mans 24hr race, Wimbledon tennis and Matchplay Golf, Transatlantic Rowing Races as well as the BT Global Challenge, Volvo Ocean Race, Americas Cup, the Fastnet Race, Cowes Week, Round the Island Race, Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival, to one-off specials on wide ranging subjects and live sports programmes, Airwaves has a unique record.

In the past it was the business of big companies to produce programmes to broadcast standards. Today, equipment advances including digital, non-linear editing based on the fastest computers, gyro-stabilised cameras, UAV drones and 4K resolutions enables the creation of highly professional productions at a fraction of previous costs. The latest editing software linked to the best in support graphics and effects packages gives us versatility previously in the domain of major feature films and television commercials.

Planning

From initial concept to finished programmes, we manage the whole process from consultation to delivery.

Budgeting, layout, music, graphic styles, programme content, acquisition and post production are the factors that have to be balanced when planning any production. Airwaves has the experience to assess any job from the smallest audio item to a full series of television programmes and to produce the desired finished result. Airwaves specialises in on- and in-water filming and have the equipment and operators to ensure economic and effective image capture in this demanding environment. Special underwater housings, splash proof cases, custom-made camera mounts, special audio set-ups, pole and gyro stabilised cameras and many other unique items make up the Airwaves armoury for demanding aquatic capture. Our specialist aerial camera operators are similarly experts in working with their pilots and the skippers of the subjects they film to bring home the best shots.

What We Do

Production

Airwaves were responsible for bringing Ellen MacArthur to television, teaching her the camera and communications techniques that she now uses so naturally, and which have made her a household name beyond the confines of her sport. We planned and produced Ellen's first television programmes, as well as making the promotional videos that were responsible for her obtaining major sponsorship. We have on location lighting, autocue facilities, 4K drones and cameras, gyro stabilised minicams and radio microphones. We have lightweight, mobile edit facilities, used in conjunction with the latest digital broadcast camera systems for on-site image capture, review and high speed production of News feeds, or even production of a complete finished broadcast programme, all on location. Whether a snappy corporate promotion, an in depth induction education or a TV doco, we can make it outstanding.

Post

In our own facilities in Warsash, Hampshire, England, we have two state-of-the-art, non-linear, digital editing facilities and sound booth that produce complete broadcast programmes with graphics and sound. Da Vinci Resolve, software allows straightforward, logical programme production with industry-leading abilities to output in broadcast and the many Internet streaming formats. We have over 100TB of media storage plus our own soundbooth for presenter voice-overs. We have audio codecs and broadband Internet facilities to send or receive sound and pictures anywhere in the world.

We use all the current digital formats for capture and mastering up to full 4K quality with 8K monitors.

We edit on the fastest multiple processor Apple computers, with DaVinci Resolve for editing, compositing and grading. Apple Motion and Fusion for animations and timeline graphics, Adobe After Effects for the really fancy stuff, and Photoshop and Illustrator to augment its power.
